Aqua Medic Nitratereductor Nr Blue

The Aqua Medic Nitratreductor NR Blue (410.760) is an anaerobic biological reactor for removing nitrates from salt- and freshwater aquaria. It has a 5 l (c. 1.2 gal) volume and an internal circulation pump. The Nitratereductor works with a flow rate of 1 to 4 l/hr (c. 0.25 to 1 gph). In the absence of oxygen this situation promotes bacteria that metabolize nitrate. Denimar-powder or Deniballs are used as an organic energy source. Setting it up and running

The NR Blue suits reef and fish-only marine tanks, as well as freshwater set-ups, where nitrate keeps creeping up despite water changes. Place it beside the sump or in the cabinet under the aquarium, feed it from the filter and set a slow flow within its range of 1 to 4 litres per hour. The Deniballs and BactoBalls supplied get it started; later you can keep the bacteria fed with Denimar powder or more Deniballs. Allow a few weeks for the bacteria to establish, test nitrate regularly while it settles, and change the flow gradually rather than in big jumps.
