How to choose feeders and a bird water bottle
Count your birds first. Each one needs to reach food without being chased off, so a pair of lovebirds or a group of finches does better with two feeding stations than one large dish. Grid-covered feeders cut down on husks flicked onto the floor, and perch feeders let small birds eat without standing in the seed. Mount dishes where no perch sits directly above them, so droppings stay out. A bird water bottle stays cleaner than an open cup, but some birds take a few days to learn the spout, so keep a dish in place until you see your bird drinking from it. Tap the tip every morning to check that water flows. Near a sunny window, water warms up and grows bacteria quickly, so refill daily and scrub bottles twice a week with a small brush. A bird bath once or twice a week helps feathers stay in good condition in dry, air-conditioned rooms.
