Sizing a parrot cage or small bird cage
When choosing a bird cage for a Dubai apartment, buy the biggest one your room allows. At a minimum, your bird must have room to open both wings fully without hitting the bars, and budgies, canaries and finches need width for short flights more than they need height. Bar spacing matters as much as size: around 1 to 1.2 cm for small birds, about 1.5 cm for cockatiels and conures, and 2 to 2.5 cm with thicker bars for greys and amazons, so a head cannot get trapped. A parrot cage also needs a door latch that clever beaks cannot open, or add a clip. Place the cage with one side against a wall, roughly at chest height, away from AC vents, the kitchen and any window that catches the afternoon sun. Birds kept indoors behind glass get little UVB, so a bird lamp on a timer that follows daylight hours is worth adding. Change floor sheets weekly and wipe the tray with a mild, bird-safe cleaner.
