A simple aquarium maintenance routine for hot months
Each week, wipe algae from the front glass, siphon debris from the substrate and replace 10 to 25 percent of the water with conditioned water at the same temperature. Trim fast stem plants before they shade the ones below, and pull out melting leaves so they do not rot.

Each month, squeeze filter sponges in a bucket of old tank water instead of under the tap, which protects the bacteria that process waste, and check the color of the drop checker if you inject CO2. Pumps and impellers need a scrub every few months.

From May to September, evaporation speeds up and water temperature creeps higher.
