How to feed rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas
Hay is the main course, not a side dish. Good hay for rabbits should make up around 80 percent of their diet and be available all day, because chewing it keeps their teeth worn and their gut moving. The same rule applies to guinea pigs and chinchillas. Pellets come next, in a measured daily portion that follows the pack guide, with junior and senior formulas for rabbits at either end of life. Guinea pigs cannot produce vitamin C, so pick a guinea pig pellet with added vitamin C and offer fresh bell pepper or leafy greens as well. Introduce any new food gradually over one to two weeks to avoid upsetting digestion. Storage needs care in the UAE: keep hay and pellets sealed in a cool, dry, air-conditioned room, check hay for damp or mold, and buy bag sizes you will finish within a few weeks, as heat and humidity shorten shelf life.
