AquaMaxx Sigma In-Sump Media Reactor for Carbon & GFO – Sigma 1

The AquaMaxx Sigma is a multi-purpose in-sump media reactor for marine and reef aquariums, used with carbon or GFO to help remove organic pollutants, odours, discolouration and the nutrients that feed algae. Water enters at the bottom and is pushed up through the media, while fluidised plates keep it suspended and evenly spread for maximum contact time. The integrated Sicce pump has an adjustable flow rate, the canister detaches for easy media changes, and the compact footprint saves space in the sump.

Sigma 1 or Sigma 2

AquaMaxx lists the Sigma 1 with a footprint of about 10 x 11 cm and a height of about 34 cm, holding up to 1 cup of carbon or 3/4 cup of GFO. The Sigma 2 is larger, at about 13 x 14 cm and 37 cm tall, and takes up to 2 cups of carbon or 1.5 cups of GFO. Measure the free space and water depth in your sump, and choose the bigger model if your system needs more media.

Good to know

Rinse new media before filling, start with a low flow and increase it gradually until the media moves gently, then check nitrate and phosphate regularly to judge when to replace it.
