Working through mats

Work on a dry, brushed coat in good light, one small section at a time. Start at the outer edge of a mat and work inwards, letting the blades split it into smaller pieces rather than pulling it out in one go. Follow with a slicker brush and a comb to clear what is left. Tight mats lying flat against the skin are safer clipped out by a groomer. The cutting edges are sharp, so store the rake out of reach of children.

Good to know

Hold the mat at the base to avoid pulling the skin and rake gently in short strokes in the direction of hair growth. Never use on broken or irritated skin.
