Getting your dog used to brushing

Introduce brushing gradually over a week or two. Start by letting your dog lick a little paste from your finger, then lift the lips and rub the gums gently for a few seconds. Next, move on to the soft brush heads, which are meant for this settling-in stage and for sensitive mouths. Once your dog is relaxed, use the large brush on the front teeth and the small brush on the back molars, working in small circles along the gum line. Aim to brush daily, or at least several times a week, and keep sessions short and positive with praise afterwards. Never use human toothpaste on dogs. Rinse the brushes after use, let them air-dry, and replace them once the bristles splay.
