Using the blade safely

The 60 cm handle reaches the bottom of most home aquariums, so you can clean without putting your arm in the water and disturbing fish or plants. Hold the blade at a shallow angle to the glass and work in short, firm strokes from the top down, which lifts hard green spot algae that sponges cannot shift. Stop a few millimetres short of the silicone seams in the corners, as the blade can cut the sealant. Keep it clear of the gravel, since a trapped grain can scratch even glass. As stated by the maker, it is for glass tanks only and must not be used on acrylic. Scrape before a water change so you can siphon out the loosened algae. Rinse the blade in clean water after use, dry it and store it with the edge protected, and replace it once the edge is nicked.
