Which brush for which job

The slim 3.5 mm brush is the one for narrow parts such as CO2 diffuser stems, bubble counters, check valves and the small tubes of glass inflow and outflow pipes. The 24 mm brush suits wider parts, including filter intake pipes, hose connectors, spray bars and pump housings. Scrub parts in a bucket of old tank water rather than with detergent, which can leave residues that harm fish. For heavy limescale, soak the part in a mild vinegar or citric acid solution first, then brush and rinse thoroughly before refitting. Rinse and dry the brushes after use.
