The number gives the length of coat left behind, from 0.05 mm up to 25 mm across the range: blades marked F are finishing blades with full teeth for a smooth result, while sizes 7, 5, 4 and 3 are skip-tooth blades that move more easily through coarser coats. Choosing a blade

Three sizes are offered here. The 4 skip-tooth blade leaves about 9 mm of coat and moves well through thicker or coarser hair; the 3F finishing blade leaves 13 mm, and the 5/8F leaves 16 mm for a longer, softer look. Longer blades snag on tangles, so bathe, dry and brush the coat out fully before clipping, and work in the direction of hair growth. Check your clipper takes A5-type blades, as Oster A5 and Andis AGC models do.

Check the blade fits your clipper before use. Clean hair from the teeth and oil the blade after each session, and use a coolant or blade wash if it becomes warm.
