The Dymax UV-Flo Steriliser 5W is a compact inline UV unit with quick-connect fittings that joins straight onto the hose of a canister filter, an overhead filter or a sump return pump. As water passes, the UV light kills free-floating algae and bacteria, helping to clear green and cloudy water. In planted aquariums it also helps keep cyanobacteria in check, which can otherwise smother plants. Its condensed design guides the water through and around the 5 W bulb, increasing exposure time for clearer water.

Fitting and running it
Fit the unit on the return hose after the filter, so the water reaching the bulb is already free of large particles, and check your hose is 16/22 mm. Many keepers replace UV bulbs about once a year, as output fades before the lamp stops glowing. Switch the steriliser off while using medication or bacteria starter products.
Good to know
Never look directly at the lit UV bulb, and unplug the unit before opening it or changing the lamp.
