Using and caring for it

This sponge is the replacement head for the EHEIM rapidCleaner, so check that you own that cleaner before ordering. It is designed for glass panes, so if your aquarium is acrylic, check its suitability first, as acrylic scratches far more easily. The biggest risk to any glass cleaner is grit: when you wipe close to the substrate line, a single grain of sand caught in the sponge can drag a scratch across the pane, so stop short of the gravel and rinse the sponge if it touches the bottom. Clean the glass just before a partial water change, so loosened algae can be siphoned out with the old water. Work in slow, overlapping strokes, and use gentle pressure on stubborn spots rather than scrubbing hard. Afterwards, rinse the sponge in tank water or clean tap water, squeeze it out and let it air-dry. Replace it when it becomes frayed, compressed or permanently stained.
