Brushing technique

The small head is well suited to toy and small breeds, and to delicate areas such as the face, legs, paws and behind the ears on bigger dogs. Use light pressure and a flicking wrist action, as pressing the fine wires into the skin can cause soreness, often called brush burn. For thick or long coats, part the hair in sections and brush each layer from the skin outwards. Follow up with a comb to check no small tangles remain close to the skin.
