Placement and care
Because it is hollow, the diffuser needs little pressure, so even a small air pump can drive it through a moderate water depth. Lay it on the substrate or tuck it behind rocks or plants, and position it where the rising curtain of bubbles helps circulate water towards the filter intake. A control valve in the line lets you fine-tune the stream. Ceramic is brittle, so handle it carefully and avoid knocking it against the glass. If bubbles become larger over time, soak the stone in diluted vinegar to clear mineral deposits, rinse well, and let it dry before refitting.
Good to know
Fit a non-return valve in the air line, and replace the diffuser when the bubbles become coarse.
