Working out how much you need

Hobby recommends this bark for semi-damp and especially damp terrariums, listing iguanas, tortoises of the Testudo genus, water dragons and dart frogs among suitable animals. To estimate coverage, divide the volume by the depth you want: a 4 litre pack spread 3 cm deep covers about 1,300 square centimetres, roughly 40 x 33 cm, so larger enclosures need several packs. Moisten the bark before adding animals, let it settle, and keep a drier spot under the basking lamp. Watch that animals do not swallow pieces while feeding; offering food in a shallow dish helps prevent this.

Good to know

Mist the substrate to keep it slightly damp, spot-clean droppings, and replace it regularly to keep the terrarium fresh.
