Placement and UV distance
Hobby rates the 70W UV Eco to reach its best UV-B level, around 100µW/cm², at roughly 35cm from the animal, so hang it so your reptile’s basking spot sits about that far below the bulb rather than much closer or further away. Its compact size means it can also be used in smaller terrariums, provided the animal can move well away from the heat. Because one bulb supplies light, heat and UV-A/B, there is no separate ballast to wire in, which keeps the set-up simple. UV-B lets reptiles produce vitamin D3, which they need to make use of calcium. Fit it in a ceramic lamp holder rated for the wattage.
Good to know
Use a lamp protector, keep a cooler area in the terrarium so animals can regulate their temperature, and replace the lamp as UV output declines.
