JBL Artemio Set is a home hatchery for brine shrimp, giving you a regular supply of fresh live food for aquarium fish and their fry. The kit is built around a culture vessel with a stand and an air pump. Once it is assembled, you add water, salt and Artemia eggs, and the nauplii hatch within 24 to 48 hours. The funnel shape keeps the eggs in constant motion, which supports a high hatching rate. A 0.15 mm sieve separates the young shrimp from the salty breeding water, and a harvesting container makes them easy to collect for feeding.

Expanding the setup

The set can be combined with further JBL breeding containers. Start each one at a different time and there will always be a fresh batch ready, which is useful when you are raising delicate young fry that need small live food every day.

Getting the best hatch

Set the kit up in a warm room, because brine shrimp eggs hatch more slowly in cool conditions, and keep a lamp nearby, as the nauplii gather towards light, which makes harvesting easier. After catching them, rinse the nauplii with fresh water while they are still in the sieve so very little salt reaches a freshwater aquarium, then feed small amounts several times a day. Clean the funnel thoroughly between batches so bacteria do not build up and lower the next hatch.

Good to know

Each batch needs water, salt and Artemia eggs, so check what your kit contains before you start. Place the air pump above the water level so water cannot run back into it along the airline.
