JBL Sansibar White 10kg

JBL Sansibar White is a fine, bright white granite sand for freshwater and marine aquariums and terrariums. The 0.2 to 0.6 mm grains anchor plant roots firmly, and the dense, fine texture stops sludge and other waste from sinking into the bed, supporting strong plant growth. The rounded grains are kind to the sensitive barbels of bottom-dwelling fish. It releases no unwanted pollutants into the water, so it is suitable for fish, invertebrates and plants alike. A white floor brightens the whole aquarium and gives the layout a clean, light look.

Planning and keeping it white

For planted tanks, JBL suggests a layer of about 6-8 cm over a nutrient substrate, so work out how many bags you need before starting; JBL’s online ProScape substrate calculator can help. The fine, rounded grains suit corydoras, loaches and other bottom-dwellers that sift with their barbels, and the sand can also be used in marine tanks and terrariums. Bright white sand shows waste and uneaten food clearly, so hover a gravel cleaner just above the surface during water changes rather than pushing it deep, and rinse the sand well before use.

Good to know

Pour water in gently over a plate or bag when filling the aquarium, so the fine sand stays in place and does not cloud the water.
