JBL TerraCoco Humus 600g

JBL TerraCoco Humus is a natural, peat-like substrate made from coconut humus for all types of terrarium. It is produced from the fibrous outer husks of ripe coconuts and supplied as a compressed block, which keeps the 600g pack compact and easy to store. Once prepared, it gives reptiles, amphibians and other terrarium animals a soft, earthy floor that helps you build a set-up close to their natural habitat. According to JBL, the coconut material has a natural germ-inhibiting effect and helps keep fungal growth down.

Preparing the compressed block

The 600g pack is compressed and expands to about 9 litres once soaked, so put it in a large bucket with plenty of water and break it up as it swells. When it is loose and evenly moist, squeeze out the excess so the substrate is damp rather than soggy before spreading it in the terrarium. Nine litres gives a layer of around 5cm in a terrarium of roughly 45 x 40cm, so larger set-ups or burrowing species will need more than one pack.

Good to know

Spot-clean droppings and leftover food regularly, and renew the substrate completely from time to time to keep the terrarium hygienic.
