JBL TerraSand is a fine-grained sand substrate for desert terrariums. It gives lizards and other dry-climate reptiles a natural floor to walk on and dig in, and the colour lets you recreate the look of a desert habitat. This is the Red version.

Grain and setting up
JBL describes its white TerraSand as a natural, virtually dust-free sand with a fine grain of about 0.2 to 0.5mm, rounded to reduce abrasion on the animals’ skin. The fine grain encourages natural digging in desert lizards and other dry-climate species. Choose red or white to match the desert look you want to recreate; JBL also makes a yellow version. Spread a layer a few centimetres deep, deeper in one corner if your animals like to burrow, and offer food in a dish so insects and pellets are not swallowed together with sand.
Good to know
Spot-clean droppings regularly and replace the sand completely from time to time.
