Choosing and using the light

This clip-on light, model QL-X5, is sized for small freshwater aquariums 20 to 40cm long, such as desktop, betta and nano tanks; on a longer tank a single 6W unit will leave the ends dim. Before buying, check that your tank has a rim or glass edge the clamp can grip and that there is room above it for the lamp head. Position it so the light falls over the centre of the tank, and run it for around eight hours a day, ideally on a plug-in timer, to give fish a regular day and night and keep algae in check. Easy, low-light plants such as anubias, java fern, cryptocorynes and mosses do well under a light of this size. Keep the fitting dry, unplug it before moving it, and wipe dust and water marks off the cover.
