Size and technique

Choose the Small rake for small and medium dogs and for tighter areas such as the legs, neck and behind the ears, and the Large rake for big double-coated dogs. Undercoat rakes are made for breeds with a dense undercoat beneath a harsher topcoat, such as German Shepherds, Huskies, Labradors and Golden Retrievers; dogs with a single coat, such as Poodles, gain little from one. Work on a dry coat, section by section, with short strokes and light pressure so the pins do not scratch the skin, and clear the collected hair often. Finish with a brush to lift any remaining loose hair.

Good to know

Rake gently in the direction of hair growth, and use it most often during moulting season when shedding is heaviest.
