Choosing and setting it up

The disc comes in two sizes here: S and M, model codes BS-DRS 14043 and BS-DRM 14044. The small disc suits nano and small tanks, or pumps with modest output, while the medium disc spreads air over a wider area in larger aquariums and needs a stronger pump to bubble evenly. Before ordering, check that your air pump has enough output for the disc size. Connect it to the pump with airline tubing, and fit a non-return valve so water cannot siphon back into the pump during a power cut. Place the disc flat on the bottom, near the back or close to the filter intake, so the rising bubbles help circulate water through the whole tank. A disc gives a broad, gentle stream that looks attractive and helps gas exchange at the surface. Over time the pores clog with algae and minerals, so if the bubbles become uneven, scrub it with a soft brush in tank water, or replace it.
