Treating white spot effectively

White spot is caused by a parasite that shows as tiny white grains, like sprinkled salt, on the body and fins; affected fish often flick or rub against decor. The visible spots are only one stage of its life cycle, and the free-swimming stage lives in the water, so always dose the whole aquarium rather than individual fish, and finish the course even after the spots fade. Before dosing, remove activated carbon from the filter and switch off any UV clarifier, as both can take medicine out of the water, and keep aeration strong. Check the label for any warnings about invertebrates, sensitive or scaleless fish and plants, and move animals out if needed. Measure the tank’s actual water volume rather than its stated size, so you do not overdose. The 100ml bottle suits smaller tanks or a single course, and the 200ml larger tanks. Follow the pack directions exactly, and ask a vet or aquatic specialist if fish do not improve.
