Choosing a model

Four outputs are offered: the FDCF700 at 750L/h, the FDCF800 at 850L/h, the FDCF1200 at 1200L/h and the FDC2400 at 3000L/h. The FDCF800 is listed for tanks of around 90 litres and has a 7W UV lamp, so step up to the 1200 or 2400 model for larger or heavily stocked aquariums. A common guide is a filter that turns the tank volume over several times an hour, and going a size up is safer than choosing one too small. Stand the canister below the tank and fill it with water before switching on. Rinse the sponges in old tank water rather than under the tap, and replace the UV bulb at the interval the maker recommends, as UV output fades even while the lamp still glows. Never look directly at a lit UV lamp.
