Setting it up

A greasy or cloudy film on the water surface usually comes from fish food oils and proteins, and it reduces oxygen exchange and dulls the light. With a flow of 200 litres per hour and a 3W pump, this skimmer suits small and medium tanks, in fresh or salt water. Check the maximum height of 33 cm against your tank before buying, so the unit sits correctly from the bottom to the surface. Adjust the float so the inlet sits just below the water line, and place it where the filter outlet pushes surface water towards it. Top up evaporated water regularly, as the skimmer works best at a steady level. Clean the sponge and check the impeller during routine maintenance, and cover the intake with a fine sponge if you keep shrimp or tiny fry.
