Training on the dog walk
Introduce the bridge in stages rather than asking a novice dog to go straight over the top. Start with a plank laid on the ground and reward your dog for walking its full length, then add the ramps once it moves confidently. Teach a clear behaviour at the bottom of the down ramp, such as a stop with the back feet still on the plank, so your dog learns to touch the contact area rather than leaping off. Keep sessions short, keep a hand on the harness for the first runs at height, and check that all four sections are firmly joined before every session.

Set up on level ground, check stability before use and guide inexperienced dogs across slowly on a lead.
