This Seachem Filter Sock fits a sump inlet and traps fine detritus before it can break down into nitrate and phosphate. A singed finish limits fibre shedding, and regular rinsing keeps water polished and the sump cleaner. This is the 100 Micron Welded 10 x 30cm version.

Choosing size and micron rating

Match the sock to your sump’s holder: the 10 x 30cm socks suit 4 inch rings and the 17.5 x 40.5cm socks suit 7 inch rings, so measure the opening first. The micron number sets how fine the filtering is: 100 micron catches the finest particles but clogs fastest, 200 micron is a middle ground, and 250 micron mesh clogs slowest and is easiest to rinse. The welded versions have heat-sealed seams rather than stitching. Keep a spare so you can swap a dirty sock straight away and wash the other.

Good to know

Swap and rinse the sock every few days, as a clogged sock can overflow and reduce flow.
