Using the fibres

Place the fibres in the first chamber or basket of your filter, where water enters, so they catch coarse dirt before it can clog the biological media further along. Loosely pack rather than compress them, so water still flows freely. When flow drops, rinse them in a bucket of tank or pond water, not tap water, and replace them once they lose their springiness. Outside the filter, a loose handful in a breeding tank gives egg-scattering fish somewhere to spawn and fry somewhere to hide, and a few fibres in a transport bag give shrimps something to cling to on the journey home.
