Fitting the right spare

This valve is made for the fil bioactive 130 and fil bioactive 130 + UV external filters only, so check the model on your filter’s label before ordering; larger fil bioactive models use different parts. Replace the valve if the original is cracked, leaks at the joints, has a stiff or broken lever, or has been lost. Before fitting it, switch off and unplug the filter, close off the hoses if you can, and have a towel ready for drips. Check the seals and O-rings as you go; a thin film of aquarium-safe silicone lubricant helps them seat properly, while petroleum jelly or household oils should never be used. After reconnecting, open the flow slowly, let trapped air escape before switching the filter on, and check every joint for leaks over the next few hours. A spare valve is also handy for keeping the hoses closed when you take the filter away for cleaning.
