Picking sizes for your layout

The stone comes in four sizes: Extra Small, Small, Medium and Large. For a balanced hardscape, a common approach is one Large piece as the main focal point, two or three Medium or Small pieces to support it, and Extra Small stones to fill gaps and lead the eye along the substrate. In a nano tank, Medium and smaller pieces usually keep the scale right. Set heavier stones directly on the glass, or on a protective mat, before adding substrate so digging fish cannot undermine them, then bury each base slightly so the stones look naturally embedded.

Good to know

Rinse each piece before use, plan the layout on the empty tank floor first, and check water hardness after adding new stone, as some rocks can raise it slightly.
