Choosing a chip size

Small 1–3 cm chips suit smaller enclosures and can be mixed with coco soil for a planted, bioactive floor, while the larger 3–6 cm and 5–7 cm pieces give a chunkier forest look and suit bigger enclosures and larger species. If your animal grabs food off the floor, choose chips clearly too big to swallow, or feed from a dish. Each bag holds 4 litres, so a deep layer in a larger terrarium will need several bags. Mist lightly to keep humidity steady.

Good to know

Spread an even layer over the enclosure floor, spot-clean waste regularly and replace the substrate completely when it becomes soiled or stale.
