Planning lamp changes

Before buying, confirm your fixture is an ADA Grand Solar I or Solar I, as this lamp (ADA code 108-0361, NAG-150W-Green) is made for those units. Metal halide output fades gradually, so plants can slow down well before the lamp actually fails; writing the fitting date on a label inside the fixture makes it easy to keep track of the hours. Many aquascapers also keep a spare lamp, so a sudden failure does not leave a planted tank without light for days.
