Fit and finish

A #4FW is a full-tooth blade that typically leaves around 9.5 mm (3/8 in) of coat, a practical length for an even, natural-looking body trim. The extra width suits large, flat areas such as the back, sides and chest of dogs, and the same blade is used on goats, lambs, cattle and horses. For legs, faces and tight curves, a standard-width blade is easier to control. Clip with the lie of the coat on clean, dry hair, oil the blade regularly and pause if it starts to feel warm.
