Where and how to fit it

Fit this valve whenever an air pump or a CO2 cylinder sits lower than the water surface, for example in a cabinet below the tank. If the power cuts out, water can siphon back down the airline and flood the pump or reach the regulator; the valve closes and stops that flow. It fits standard 4/6 mm airline tubing, meaning 4 mm inside and 6 mm outside diameter, so measure your hose before ordering. Cut the airline a short distance outside the aquarium, push each end firmly onto the valve and make sure it faces the right way: air or gas must be able to pass towards the tank. If the bubbles stop after fitting, turn it round. Keep the valve outside the water where you can see it, and check it every few months, as deposits or algae can make it stick. Each pack holds one valve, so order one per airline if you run several pumps or a separate CO2 line.
