Kiezebrink Blijkie Black Foil Line is whole frozen feeder prey for snakes and other reptiles that eat rodents. Each item is a complete prey animal, frozen fresh with nothing added to preserve it, so your reptile gets the bones, organs and fur it would catch in the wild. The line covers mice and rats from newborn pinkies up to adult rats, packed in plastic foil with several pieces per pack. Thaw one portion at a time in the fridge and offer it warmed to room temperature.

Thawing and serving

Take the prey you need out of the foil pack and place it in a small lidded container. Leave it in the refrigerator at 4-7°C until fully defrosted, then let it reach room temperature before feeding. Thawed prey keeps in the fridge for up to 2 days; do not refreeze it.

Choosing a prey size

The range runs from Baby Mice of 1-2g and Fuzzy Mice of 4-6g, through Small, Medium and Large mice of 8-30g, to Baby Rats, Fuzzy Rats, Small and Large Weaner Rats, Small Rats of 90-150g and Large Rats of 250-350g, with Day Old Chickens of about 25g for variety. A common rule is to choose prey roughly as wide as the thickest part of your snake’s body and to move up a size as it grows, so hatchlings start on the smallest mice while large pythons and boas take rats. Offer each item with long tongs rather than your fingers, and remove anything left uneaten.

Good to know

Because there are no preservatives, keep the packs in a freezer at -18°C until needed. This is raw animal food and not fit for human consumption, so wash your hands and surfaces after handling.
