Choosing a flow rate

Three outputs are available: 5000, 8000 and 10000 litres per hour. A common rule of thumb is to circulate the whole pond volume at least once every one to two hours, so the 5000L/h model suits a smaller pond, while larger or heavily stocked ponds, and setups feeding a waterfall or a long run of pipe, benefit from 8000 or 10000L/h. Flow drops as water has to be lifted higher, so allow extra if the outlet sits well above the pump. Because the speed can be stepped down, a slightly larger model gives you room to adjust later. Stand the pump on a flat stone just off the bottom so it draws in less sludge.
