Dupla Reef Ground is an ultra-pure natural aragonite of fossil origin, used as a substrate for all marine aquariums. Its purity makes it extremely bright with high light reflection, an advantage for light-hungry corals, and it is an environmentally friendly alternative to natural coral sand. This pack is 1.0-2.0mm grain, 20kg.

Grain size and quantities

Dupla offers Reef Ground in three grain sizes, and this 1.0-2.0mm grade sits in the middle: coarser than the 0.5-1.2mm sand, so it is less likely to be blown around by strong flow, yet finer and smoother-looking than the 2.0-3.0mm grade. Its composition is about 99.2% calcium carbonate with 0.4% magnesium carbonate and only a trace of iron. The 3L pack suits nano tanks or topping up an existing bed, while the 20kg bag covers larger aquariums. As a rough guide, a 2 to 3cm layer across a 100 x 50cm footprint needs around 15 to 25kg.
