Its purity makes it extremely bright with high light reflection, an advantage for light-hungry corals, and it is an environmentally friendly alternative to natural coral sand. When to choose the coarse grade

This 2.0-3.0mm grade is the coarsest of Dupla’s three Reef Ground sizes, alongside 0.5-1.2mm and 1.0-2.0mm. The heavier grains stay put in strong water movement, so it suits tanks with powerful pumps or wavemakers, and the looser structure lets water pass through the bed more easily than fine sand. Wrasses that bury themselves at night need a finer grain, so check your livestock’s needs first. Like the other grades it is about 99.2% calcium carbonate with 0.4% magnesium carbonate, and a 20kg bag gives roughly a 2 to 3cm layer across a 100 x 50cm floor.
