Introducing corals to new light

Strong LED lighting can stress corals that are not used to it, so begin with a shorter photoperiod and, if your setup allows, lower intensity, then increase gradually over a few weeks while watching how the corals respond. Soft corals and zoanthids generally cope with less light than small-polyp stony corals, which may need to sit higher in the rockwork. A daily lighting period of around eight to ten hours is typical for reef tanks, and a simple plug-in timer keeps it consistent. Wipe salt creep off the light regularly so its output does not drop.
