Installing and maintaining

Place the filter in the cabinet below the aquarium so water can flow down into it, and keep the hoses as short and kink-free as possible for the best flow. Layer the media from coarse to fine in the direction of water flow, rinsing it in aquarium water first. Fill the canister and hoses with water before switching on so the pump never runs dry, and check every connection for drips during the first hours. When flow drops, close the taps, disconnect the canister and rinse the media in old tank water rather than tap water to protect the beneficial bacteria. Clean the impeller from time to time, and keep the sealing ring clean so the lid stays watertight.
