Choosing a wattage

Pick the wattage by enclosure size and distance: 25W or 50W for small terrariums or where the bulb sits close to the basking spot, and 100W or 150W for large or tall enclosures. Because the tight beam carries about 35% more light and heat than a standard bulb, you can mount it further from the basking site, and it also raises the overall air temperature. Exo Terra recommends small dome or wire light fixtures for the 50W. The coloured glass gives off a small amount of UVA but no UVB, so pair it with a UVB lamp, and use a night heat lamp or infrared spot after dark if heat is needed around the clock.

Good to know

Use the bulb in a ceramic-socket fixture rated for its wattage, and check basking temperatures with a thermometer.
