Choosing the wattage

Pick the wattage by terrarium size and how much warmer than the room it needs to be: 60 W suits smaller enclosures, 100 W and 150 W medium terrariums, and 250 W large enclosures or cool rooms. It is better to choose slightly more power and control it with a thermostat than to run an undersized heater flat out. Use a porcelain lamp holder rated for the wattage, mount the heater above a mesh lid or inside a protective basket, and place the thermostat probe at animal level in the warm zone. The emitter gets very hot, so let it cool before touching and keep it clear of decorations.
