Before you treat

Identify the problem as closely as you can before dosing, and if you are unsure, ask an aquatic vet or experienced fish shop for advice. Work out the real water volume of the tank, after allowing for gravel and decor, and dose exactly as the label directs. Take activated carbon out of the filter during treatment, as it can remove medicines from the water, and add extra aeration because sick fish need plenty of oxygen. Avoid combining it with other treatments unless the label says it is safe. Check the label before using it in tanks with shrimp, snails or delicate plants, as many treatments are unsuitable for them, and test pH during the course, since the product is described as lowering it. Finish with a partial water change, and follow the pack directions or your vet’s advice.
