Choosing and planning your stone

Each code in this range is a different stone, so compare the photos and descriptions before ordering. R2 is a 2-3cm grade suited to substrate and borders, PS2 is a polished dark pebble, and grades such as Rock-01 and BIGROCK1 are larger pieces for building features. Every option comes in a 25kg sack. Loose stone weighs roughly 1.5kg per litre of space, so one sack fills about 16 litres, enough for a layer around 5cm deep across an 80 x 40cm tank floor. Measure your tank or pond and multiply out before ordering, adding a little extra for slopes and gaps. Place large rocks directly on the glass base, or on a protective mat, before adding any substrate, so they cannot sink or shift and fall against the glass. Never drop stones into a tank, and lower heavy pieces gently. Build all rockwork before filling, and check that every piece sits firmly. In ponds, larger rocks make good edging and shelves for marginal plants.
