JBL Proair A50

JBL ProAir a50 is a compact diaphragm air pump that keeps small aquariums supplied with oxygen. It comes ready to install with a check valve and an air stone: connect the pump to the stone with airline, place the pump outside the tank and put the air stone in the water. It delivers 50 litres of air per hour at a pressure of more than 160 mbar while using just 2.3 W. A noise-suppression air chamber, a reinforced housing wall and vibration-damping rubber feet help keep it quiet, and it is GS tested.

Setting it up and upgrades

With an output of 50 litres per hour, the a50 is sized for a single air stone in a small or medium aquarium, such as a nano, quarantine or hospital tank. Place the pump outside the aquarium, ideally above the water level, and keep the supplied check valve in the airline so water cannot siphon back into the pump if the power goes off. The hanging device lets you mount it on the cabinet wall, while the rubber feet reduce vibration on a shelf. Replace the air stone when the bubbles become coarse. For larger tanks or several outlets, JBL’s ProAir range includes bigger models such as the a100, a200 and a400.

Good to know

Keep the pump dry and stand it on a stable surface or hang it up, and unplug it before moving it or working on the airline.
