Planning and setting it up

At 465 x 260 x 450mm, the tank has a gross volume of roughly 54 litres, so once filled with water, gravel and decorations it will weigh well over 50kg. As it comes without a cabinet, place it on a purpose-made stand or a level, solid piece of furniture that can carry that weight, away from direct sunlight, radiators and air conditioning vents. Check which equipment is included with your tank and add whatever is missing: a filter rated for around 50 to 60 litres, a heater if you plan to keep tropical fish, and a light on a timer. Rinse the gravel, fill with dechlorinated water and run the filter for a week or two before adding fish, so beneficial bacteria can establish. A tank of this size suits a small community of fish such as tetras, rasboras, guppies or corydoras, added gradually over several weeks. Change about a quarter of the water every week or two, and rinse filter media in old tank water rather than tap water.
