Choosing a colour and using it

Pick terracotta for a warm, red-desert look or caramel for a lighter, golden finish; both are the same 4 kg calcium carbonate sand. It suits adult desert species that enjoy digging, such as bearded dragons and uromastyx, while many keepers prefer a solid floor for very young or small reptiles until they are feeding confidently. Keep the sand dry, as damp patches can clump, and buy enough for an even layer with deeper areas for digging.
