Dosing and clearing green water

The dose is 5ml for every 30 litres, so the 200ml bottle treats up to about 1,200 litres in total. Work out your real water volume first: multiply length, width and water depth in centimetres, divide by 1,000, then knock off around 10 to 20 per cent for gravel and decor. A tank holding about 100 litres therefore needs roughly 17ml. Keep the filter running with its sponge or floss in place so it can catch the clumped particles, then rinse the sponge in old tank water a day or two later and do a partial water change. A clarifier deals with the cloudiness, not its cause, so look at why the water turned green. Too much light, especially direct sunlight, overfeeding, overstocking and infrequent water changes all feed free-floating algae. Shorten the lighting period, feed less, remove waste promptly and keep up with regular water changes to stop it coming back. Never exceed the stated dose, and always keep the bottle out of reach of children.
